When it comes to mental health, conditions like depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder often come to mind. But does this mean that being without mental illness is the same as being mentally healthy? In an article for ABC Health & Wellbeing, I took a look at what it means to be mentally well, and what you can do to improve your mental wellbeing. Check it out here.

  1. I enjoyed your article. I manage several mental health and addiction programs and I find that approaching clients (and staff) from a positive psychology perspective is enormously beneficial. Staff are more optimistic, flexible, open and willing to experiment. Clients are more willing to be playful, build trust with staff, engage and will often begin to see their own resilience. Changing our behavior is hard. I like the article because it moves away from pathologizing and is inclusive of each person. We each need to invest in our own mental health, and the mental health of clients, family and society can improve through intentional actions.
