I recently wrote an online feature for Cosmos on the intriguing practice of faecal transplantation.

One reason I was really drawn to the topic of poo transplants is that the technique is an elegant demonstration of just how important the microbial ecosystem that lives inside our gut is to our health. I’ve been keenly following developments emerging from the Human Microbiome Project, and its European counterpart, the Metagenomics of the Human Intestinal Tract project, as well as coverage by Ed Yong and others. Certainly a fertile area of science that I will be keeping an eye on.
